SHORT BIO FOR PUBLICATION (copy and paste):

This new project led by bassist/composer Rosemary Galloway includes some of the finest jazz musicians in Canada – Pat LaBarbera on saxophones, Gary Williamson, piano, Terry Clarke, drums. The quartet recorded material in January of 2006 for their CD "Live at The Montreal Bistro". The music is a mixture of standards arranged by band members or rewritten to create new tunes on familiar structures, as well as intriguing original material created for this ensemble. The musical styles represent a cross section of current influences including latin and Caribbean based grooves, and contemporary harmonic structures. Visit www.rosemarygalloway.com.

June 2006

 THE BAND

This is a project co led by composer/ instrumentalists Rosemary Galloway and Jane Fair. The development of a creative chemistry between the members of this group, and appearances in the Toronto area from 2001 have led to new compositions, producing provocative and engaging material. These are experienced and musically mature musicians, whose music remains fresh with each performance.

THE MUSICIANS

Nancy Walker, pianist, breathes harmonic and rhythmic fire into everything she touches. Drums and bass, Terry Clarke and Rosemary Galloway, provide inspired support and acute responsiveness to match the flow of ideas. Trumpet, Lina Allemano, and saxophone, Jane Fair, bring two distinct approaches to the music that interact to produce both beauty and the unexpected.

THE CD

The quintet released a debut CD in August 2002, Waltz Out, featuring compositions by Fair, Galloway, and Walker. The group performed at Eastern/ Central Canadian jazz festivals in the summer of 2002 to tremendous audience response, and spent additional time on the East coast in the fall of 2003. The quintet visited parts of Western Canada in October 2004, and again in February/ March of 2006, for which a follow up CD is also in the works. Listeners can expect an extraordinary breadth and depth of material from the original compositions offered, contemporary musical landscapes which remain engaging and accessible.
