Fall 2003
CD Review for Planet Jazz
Bill McBirnieJane Fair /Rosemary Galloway Quintet
Waltz Out
(Independent)
Released: 2002
Jane Fair - Soprano & Tenor Saxes
Rosemary Galloway - Bass
Lina Allemano - Trumpet & Flugelhorn
Nancy Walker - Piano
Terry Clarke - DrumsWhat is most striking about of the format for this CD is that it features (and pardon my political incorrectness here) an almost all girl band. However, this is not so much a point of novelty as it is a point of mere and incidental fact-because the results are excellent by any standard.
In addition to some very compelling writing (including my
favourite composition, the deep, dark "T's Vamp") Rosemary
Galloway delivers consistently solid bass lines and support
under Jane Fair's soprano and tenor which displays power that is also
